Stopping food waste

    Climate change and the rapid growth of the population are causing fields to not be able to produce enough            food for everyone. Meaning that we won't have enough food, everyone,how do we make food last or save it         so that it will last?, main factors that contribute to this are the waste of food, so how do we stop it?.

    Main benefits of reducing food waste are that it reduces methane emissions conserves energy and resources, preventing        pollution involved in the growing, manufacturing, transporting,you can also support your community by providing donated        untouched food that would have otherwise gone to waste to those who might not have a steady food supply, it may even        save you a lot of money in the long run.

  • When you get home from the store, take the time to wash, chop, and place your fresh food items in clear storage containers for more easy consumption.

  • Check your food usually to see if it's going bad

  • Keep a running list of meals and their ingredients that you enjoy. 

  • Plan your meals for the week before you go shopping and buy and only buy the necessary things. 

  • Only buy quality things that are sufficient for a good nutrition


     Technology that will help us reduce the food waste   


     Technology is also helpful in reducing food waste. Some companies like blueapple and wakati are companies that                 develop technology to help us organize our food to avoid having to throw away or have the food rote because it has not         been consumed in time or solving other technology problems that made food rot faster in fridges.


One example is  Bluapple, a company from Woods Cross,who came up with an ingenious solution. They         realised, the reason fruit and vegetables would ripen and eventually rot much quicker when stored together in a fridge            was because they give off Ethylene gas as a signaling mechanism to trigger uniform ripening.


        Another company, Wakati attacks the environmental problems caused by food waste from two different areas. It doesn’t         just prevent the harmful emissions given by rotting food but also cuts down on the need for high energy fridges. Wakati            gets this results through the first solution for the preservation of fruit and vegetables without the need for cooling. 



        In conclusion these are some of the most useful things and techniques that will help you reduce the food waste, and if            everyone uses this trips we will be able to reduce the food waste considerably fast, this may not be the final solution to            all the food problems but is definitely a good start
