It is Time For a Change

It is Time for a Change

Have you ever considered how many people are suffering from hunger around the world ? If we had reduced the amount of food we consumed by just 25 %, there would have been sufficient food for everyone who goes to bed with an empty stomach (Lyons). We can make a huge difference by stopping food waste in our homes. You can make a difference as well!  Be a part of this change. There are lots of ways to prevent food waste at home such as making shopping lists, becoming expert about storage and reviving food that is on its way out.

First of all, you can start by planning your weekly shopping list. In order to make it effective there are some details that should be taken into account. For instance, you should think about what you are going to cook, the ingredients you need and how many times you will eat out during the week. You also need to check your fridge and cupboard before going shopping, in order to avoid overbuying (Reducing Wasted Food at Home.). Write them down so you can anticipate and even calculate how much food you will consume. As a consequence, you can buy the exact quantities that you need so as to stop wasting food. In addition, you can reduce your expenditures and put aside money.

Secondly, you can be a storage expert and become friends with your refrigerator. When you go shopping you should pay attention to the expiration date of the product you wish to buy. Then, you should plan where and how you are going to store them at home.   I mean, you can either store them in the fridge or you can dry them to last longer. Correct storage of food can enhance its lifetime and reduce spoilage (Keating). So, with this kind of consideration, no food will be thrown away anymore.

Lastly, try to revive food that is on its way out. Don't throw away partly spoiled apples. You may ask why. Well,  you can peel off the apple and throw away only the spoiled part. So, the rest of the apple can be used in yummy apple pie. Likewise, you can use some part of the fruit to make juice. Just imagine how well you can feel after drinking fresh fruit juice.  Additionally, partly spoiled tomatoes can be used to make sauce which can be great with pasta. As you see, there is always a way. Just think a while to stop food waste.

In conclusion, we should repeatedly remind ourselves that hunger and food waste can disappear if we really want and cooperate. We should only be confident and plan our lifestyle accordingly. So, we can not only help the people in hunger, but we can also prevent the situation from getting worse. Take action now before it is too late.
